The Online Presence Checklist for New Businesses
For startups and new businesses building their online presence for the first time. Get it right from the start.
Most new businesses rush their online presence. They pick a template, write a quick description, and hope for the best. This checklist helps you build it right the first time.

1. Your Message is Clear
✓ Can you explain what you do in one sentence? (Not your industry, but the problem you solve).
✓ Is your website written for your client – not for you?
✓ Does your homepage answer: What is this? Who is it for? Why should I trust them?
✓ Is your messaging free of jargon your clients wouldn’t use?

2. Your Visual Identity is Consistent
✓ Do you have a clear logo that works at any size?
✓ Have you chosen 2-3 brand colours and stuck to them?
✓ Do you have 1-2 brand fonts that communicate your personality?
✓ Does your visual identity match the professionalism of your actual work?

3. Your Website Structure is Sound
✓ Does your homepage have a clear, specific headline (not just ‘Welcome’)?
✓ Is there a clear call to action on every page?
✓ Is your website mobile-responsive and fast?
✓ Is your contact information extremely easy to find?
✓ Do you have an About page that builds human trust?
4. Your LinkedIn is Set Up
✓ Is your company LinkedIn page complete with logo and banner?
✓ Does your LinkedIn headline match your website positioning?
✓ Are you connected to your actual target audience (quality over quantity)?

5. You Have a Plan for Consistency
✓ Do you have a content schedule (even just 2 posts per week)?
✓ Do you know exactly what you want to be known for?
✓ Do you have a way to capture leads from your website?
How did you score?
Most new businesses tick fewer than half of these. That’s not a failure – it’s a starting point. The businesses that get this right from the beginning spend less time fixing and more time growing.
